PRODUCER'S DETAILS
Franco was the first coffee producer in the region of the municipality of Buesaco, he discovered
that the land where he lives could be better cultivated, and began to work with a different crop
than the one that predominated at the time, which was cattle raising. Franco started growing
coffee in 1985 and shared all his knowledge with his children and grandchildren. In the year 2025
he passed away leaving behind an enormous coffee legacy.
FARM'S DETAILS
La Mina farm is located in the municipality of Buesaco, at an average altitude of 2100 masl. The
farm has an area of 16 hectares, of which 8 are dedicated to the cultivation of coffee, with 50,000
plants in production. In addition to growing coffee, he also has several products for his family's
own consumption such as: yucca, bananas, avocado, grapefruit and tree tomatoes.
LOCATION DETAILS
La Mina farm is located in the north of the department of Nariño, at a distance of 40 km north of
Pasto, in the central mountain range of the Andes, is characterized by its excellent geographical
location, fertile soils and good water reserves. Buesaco has a temperate and cool climate
throughout the year. Average temperatures oscillate between 15°C and 20°C. Rainfall is abundant,
especially during the months of April to May and September to November.
OTHER DETAILS
The main harvesting period is between April, May, June and July. Its production is 12,000 kg of dry
parchment per year. Today Jeison Lopez, his grandson, is dedicated to the production and
processing processes at the farm.
The La Mina farm has participated in events that reward the quality of coffee for several years
now, for example in 2005 it began participating in the Cup of Excellence Colombia, placing among
the finalists of the event for several consecutive years, in which it obtained honorable mentions,
standing out as one of the national reference producers. Among the main national recognitions in
this contest, the 4th place obtained in 2012, 6th place obtained in 2017, participating with lots of
caturra variety with a washed process stand out.
In the year 2024 participated in the contest of the cup of my Nariño, classified among the 30
finalists and ranked 13th with a batch of caturra variety and washed process.
