Cultivation
Uraga is a resourceful area with very fertile land,
great coffee and a flourishing mining business. Most
of the coffee trees in this area are pretty young and
their varieties is usually 74110 & 74112. These two
varieties have shown the most resistance to Uraga’s
environment whilst still displaying its coffee profile.
Farmers bring coffee cherries from an average area
of 1-2 hectares of land which were passed down
from previous generations.
Harvest , Post-Harvest & Processing
Haro Wachu Station is named after the sub-district which the station is
featured in this picture. It is the only station where we focus on
experimental coffees in Uraga but still produce a lot of washed coffee.
This is due to the availability of skilled labour, ressources and freshly
picked coffee that comes from the farmer themselves.
Washed Coffee here is fermented in the tank from 48-72 hours and then
dried on shade for 3 days whilst the parchment is at its most sensitive stage
due to high moisture.
About Washed
Guji is a is a zone in South-Eastern Oromia.
Guji produces excellent coffee due to the land
being an untouched forest for the longest of
times making the land very fertile. Due to
mining activity, it was illegal to travel to parts
of Guji zone for sometime in the past and
some areas just recently started producing
coffee.
