Our Story

Finca Isabel was born in 2015 when Fernando Calle and Gabriela Durán decided to realize their dream of cultivating specialty coffee in Caranavi Loyza, Bolivia. Fernando, a native of this region, always believed in the potential of his land: 'The area stands out for its high sugar content in fruit trees and an ideal climate for coffee,' he says. From childhood, he dreamed of owning his own farm, and after studying at Zamorano and CATIE, and working at Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama, he returned to his homeland to found Finca Isabel with Gabriela.

With the knowledge they acquired, they chose a plot of land with the perfect terroir to produce exceptional coffees. Each harvest reflects their effort, commitment to quality, and respect for the land.

In their quest to continue offering the best, Finca Isabel expanded its legacy with a second farm in Coroico, where coffees grow at altitudes ranging from 1,950 meters above sea level to over 1,950 meters. 2100 meters above sea level. These altitudes favor the development of even more complex and unique coffees, with characteristic notes of the region.

Today, our coffees are appreciated by a select group of buyers who value quality, sustainability, and the care with which we cultivate each bean. We continue to dream of sharing the unique flavor of Bolivia, always maintaining our commitment to the best of our land.

From our flagship variety, Geisha, carefully cultivated at different altitudes with meticulous dedication, to exceptional varieties like Heirloom, Caturra, and Bourbon, every Finca Isabel coffee reflects our care, patience, and deep respect for our land. Each bean is born in a unique environment, giving rise to authentic and characterful sensory profiles, as special as the place they come from.

Geisha

The first seeds of our Geisha were an invaluable gift from the Peterson family of Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama, who supported our project from its inception. Since then, we have nurtured these plants with unwavering dedication, selecting the strongest and carefully guiding them to full production.

The result is a Geisha with its own distinct identity, rooted in a legendary origin yet shaped by the unique terroir of Finca Isabel. Our Geisha exhibits elegant notes of jasmine and bergamot, accompanied by floral and fruity nuances that express the essence of the Bolivian landscape.

Bourbon

At Finca Isabel, we cultivate several Bourbon varieties: yellow, red, orange, and a unique Bourbon Erecta, each planted at different elevations to assess its adaptation and discover where it best expresses its full potential. This meticulous work allows us to understand the subtleties that the Yungas terroir contributes to each variety.

Our Bourbons are processed primarily using natural and washed methods, which highlight their characteristic sweetness, smooth cup, and an aromatic profile that combines fruity and floral notes with a classic elegance that distinguishes Bolivian Bourbon.

Heirloom

Our Heirloom seeds arrived as an unexpected gift, and from the beginning, they surprised us with their extraordinary adaptation to the Yungas environment. Over the years, these plants have shown exceptional vitality, allowing us to cultivate a top-tier Ethiopian coffee in Bolivian soil.

The result is a vibrant and complex Heirloom, with an aromatic expression that honors its African lineage while incorporating unique nuances from the Finca Isabel terroir. A coffee that combines elegance, clarity, and a deeply distinctive identity.
